Why Aquaman is NOT "Lame" A presentation by Tumblr user comics- are-sexy

Who is Aquaman? Just some preliminary information. You would be surprised at the amount of people that don't really know who he is.

Pre-New52 Let's begin the story of Aquaman's awesome-ness from before the New 52 *indicates what is also true for New52

He was AND STILL IS a founding member of the Justice League. Even Martian Manhunter was removed from the founding group in the New 52. (which I am still very angry about) around this long, let alone kept him as a JL founder, the guy has more to him than you know. *

He talked to fish. Key word: "TALKED". Past tense. Yes, he did originally talk to fish. But why do people mock this?! DO YOU PEOPLE HAVE ANY FREAKING IDEA WHAT "FISH" ARE CAPABLE OF?! DO YOU EVEN KNOW WHAT RESIDES IN THE DARK TRENCHES OF THE DEEP?! Not only did he talk to the BEASTS of the deep, he can control them with a single thought. His telepathy isn't confined to just sea animals. He can subtly influence humans and other creatures. Humans have more knowledge of OUTER SPACE than we do of our own oceans. Personally, I am pretty freaking afraid of the oceans. Aquaman is not. And that brings us to the next reason... *

My favorite power: Although this incarnation of Aquaman is not my FAVORITE, he possessed one of the most badass powers Aquaman has ever had. Aquaman loses his left hand (I believe around 1993 or 1994) and the Lady of the Lake (Any King Arthur fanatics out there?) replaces it with a magical hand made of water. I believe the hand is the same kind of "hard water" that Mera can generate. The best list of powers from the magic hand comes from ComicVine: "...the ability to dehydrate anyone he touches with it, killing them instantly, the ability to change the shape and density of the hand for example Orin can make his hand into a sword or harder than steel, shoot jets of scalding water, healing abilities, the ability to create portals into mystical dimensions, communicate with the Lady of the Lake through the water bearer hand and the ability to nullify magic even powerful sorcerers like Tempest."

More Epic Abilities Superhuman strength due to having to live within the depths of the oceans (helps him deflect bullets). He can withstand the pressures of all the oceans and probably a lot more. This is also the cause of his abilities to... breathe underwater withstand extreme temperatures he can swim at speeds of thousands of mph (lets him create huge whirlpools and tsunamis) can see in complete darkness has sonar abilities ET-FREAKING-CETERA From New52

HE IS KING OF THE FREAKING OCEANS! There is more ocean than land. Every piece of land is surrounded by miles of ocean. You can argue that he's only king of Atlantis but that is still a MAJOR achievement. Atlantis was the GREATEST CITY OF ITS TIME. Plus, Atlantis pretty much does rule the oceans. Because land people were jealous of Atlanteans and sank their city only to take advantage of a much larger portion of the planet with a much larger, more varied (scary as crap) population. Even after Atlantis was sunk, the people evolved and continued to thrive and rule a ginormous kingdom. *

Silver Age Aquaman had an Octopus sidekick. 'Nuff sed

His WIFE, yo. No argument here. Mera is not only beautiful, but she is incredibly intelligent, insightful, open-minded, and not to mention her powers are freaking BADASS. Mera is a trained assassin, has super-strength, can breathe under water, can control water, can make water "hard", and can do a crap- ton of other stuff that would take forever to list. Not only is she awesome, but Arthur and Mera's relationships is one of the most stable, consistent, and romantic in the DC Universe. * From New52

Saved the Earth as the leader of the JLA and reformed the team completely. Didn't know that did you? In Justice League of America #228 to #230 (I believe this was in the 1980s), Aquaman took over the JLA to save Earth from a Martian invasion. He then proceeded to completely disband and then recreate the JLA under new bylaws that would prevent other members from going AWOL. ( en.wikipedia.org ) Don't ever freaking call Arthur a wuss.

New52 Although the New52 got a lot of stuff WRONG, they got Aquaman SO DAMN RIGHT. This is just my opinion and I am in no way trying to force it on to yours :) LOL
