Qn: How sugar cane harvested and being processed to produce sugar? In East Africa, it takes about 14 months [at coast] or about 22 months [at plateaus] for sugar cane to mature. It harvested by cutting it at the base and removing the crown leaves. At factory; the sugar cane is first weighed.Put in large tanks [to be washed].Cut into pieces; fed into rollers and squeeze out the juice.Remaining fibre [Bagasse] dried and used as fuel for the boilers or used to generate electricity.Gunda W.C @ lushoto secondary school 2016

Qn: How sugar cane harvested and being processed to produce sugar?Juice is processed to remove dirt, then it put into boilers [For evaporation]. => It boiled until it turn into thick syrup.Syrup passed onto a vacuum pan under very low pressure to form a dark brown sugar mixture of Sucrose Crystals and Molasses [Massecuite].Then, mixture put into tanks [Crystal-liters] to grow sugar crystals.Molasses is then separated from the crystals. After completing those processes; sugar is stored in bags of various size at warehouses and transported to the markets.Gunda W.C @ lushoto secondary school 2016
