UNIVERSAL PICTURES PRESENT LONG WAY HOME. PRODUCED BY A. DANIEL H. BLATT & ROBERT SINGER. MUSIC BY CHARLES BERNSTEIN. DIRECTED BY STEVEN SPIELBERG. EMMA ROBERTS. ANDREW LINCOLN. Denotation: The title is in red.Connotation: I decided to change the font colour to red so that is shows that this film would have an element of danger included.Denotation: There is a man in a mask close up.Connotation: The man is close up to show that he is one of the main characters, however he is in a mask so that he could be mysterious .Denotation: The background is in black and white.Connotation: The poster is all in black and white apart from the title so that the title would stand out. This also makes the poster have more depth and a frightening feel.Denotation: A girl is shown in the background.Connotation: The girl is shown in the distance walking away, this relates to the title on the poster as the girl is the one who could be walking home. Although because the masked figure is also featured – close up-, it shows that the girl could be in danger.Denotation: Information at the bottom.Connotation: The film company, producer, etc. is mentioned for credit purposes.

Research the conventions of a thriller.Thriller is a genre of literature, film, and television programming that uses suspense, tension, and excitement, as its main elements. The forms and conventions of a thriller film poster are quite simple but yet effective. For example, colours represent different things on the majority of thriller posters. Red is usually used somewhere, even if its on the smallest thing, this is to show the element of danger – as it is the colour of blood. Black lacks colour and light, this could connote the lack of emotion which brings mystery to the film.Common themes and methods in thrillers are primarily revenge, kidnappings and captivities, this is because these are the topics that can easily be related to the audience as they are considered ‘believable’ and these are the situations which can get the audience emotionally involved. Popular elements in thriller movies include a protagonist, an antagonist and a solvable mystery – whether it be solved in the original film or a sequel. The reason a mystery is included is so that the audience too, can get involved and try to solve it as the film progresses. The music used is generally either slow and low pitched to create a tense atmosphere or is fast and higher pitched to create an anxious atmosphere where it mimics the heart beat increasing it’s pace.Other conventions include: low key lighting, quick cuts, shadows and changes in angle shots.Sources: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thriller_(genre) http://www.slideshare.net/matharuravina/colour-for-poster
