The General Post Office (GPO) :
Is on O'Connell's Street (Sackville St.)
Is the headquarters of the postal service
It was moved several times before finding its current position on O’Connell Street
Is 195 years old
Was designed by Francis Johnston
It is 67.1 m (220 ft.) long on the front
It is 24.4 m (80 ft.) wide on the side
It is 15.2 metres (50 ft.) tall
Statues were sculpted by John Smyth
Is Owned by an Post (the government)
It was made with Wicklow granite and Portland stone

Easter Rising 1916
During the Easter Rising of 1916, the General Post Office (GPO) was the headquarters of the Irish Volunteers. On Easter Monday of 1916, armed groups of the Irish Volunteers and the Citizen Army, commanded by Padraig Pearse and James Connolly, took over the GPO where they proclaimed the Irish Republic

The GPO was shelled and destroyed by the British army. A big fire started inside and the rebels were forced to evacuate. Don’t worry the GPO was rebuilt in 1929.
