Keith Tyson

Who is Keith Tyson?
He was born on August 23, 1969 at Ulverston Lancashire.
His given name was Keith Thomas Bower
He is a British artist.
He moved to Dalton-in-Furness when he was four and adopted his stepfather’s Christian name Tyson.
He showed an interest in and talent for art at an early age.
In 1989, he began an art foundation course at the Carlisle College of Art then he moved south to take up a place on experimental Alternative Practice degree at the Faculty of Arts and Architecture, University of Brighton.

The Artmachine :1991 - 1999
Artmachine was a method Tyson developed which used a combination of computer programs, flow charts and books in order to generate combinations of words and ideas, which were then realised in practice as artworks in a wide rage of media.

It was Tyson’s first means of exploring his ongoing interest in randomness, causality, and question how things come into being.

Large Field Array

Described by Walter Robinson as ‘nothing less than a complete Pop cosmology’. It comprises 300 modular units, most formed into2-foot cubes which are arranged into a grid occupying both the floor and walls of a gallery when installed. Each highly crafted cubic sculpture represents a unique yet highly recognizable feature of the world, from popular culture to natural history.

The Nature Paintings

A mixture of paints, pigments and chemicals are allowed to interact in specific ways upon an acid primed aluminum panel. The combined processes of Gravity, Chemical reaction, Temperature, Hydrophobia and Evaporation simultaneously jointed to create surfaces reminiscent of a wide rage of natural forms and landscapes. The paintings seem to be depict nature, but they are also created by nature as well.

Key words to associate with his work:
Creative
Powerful
Imaginative
Idealistic
Practical
Tantalizing

How I reacted to his work
I think that his work is very creative and practical because he does a lot of practical work like sculptures specifically his Large Field Array work. His work includes other peoples culture and not just his own. Which suggests unity of people from different ethnic background.

I also like his Nature Paintings because its beautiful and I like how he included science to his work with the acid reactions and how he used nature itself to create an art piece.
