SELECTION CRITERIADemonstrated track record of artistic achievement and high quality workPotential to grow and advance in their artistic career and during the fellowship period Potential to reflect, enhance or impact communities within metropolitan Detroit, as defined by the artist

CRITERIA FOR ELIGIBILITY18 years or older and a current legal resident of the metropolitan Detroit tri-county area (Macomb, Oakland or Wayne counties)Must have resided in the area for the two years prior to the application deadline (since January 22, 2013) Must intend to retain residence in the tri-county area throughout the year-long fellowship periodMust work in one or more of the fellowship disciplinesWHO MAY APPLY?

CRITERIA FOR ELIGIBILITYStudent working toward any degree, arts or non-arts related at the time of application or planning to work toward a degree during the course of the fellowship, with the exception of ABD (all but dissertation) status Ph.D. candidatesAnyone with residency outside of Macomb, Oakland or Wayne countiesKresge Artist Fellowship recipients from the last four yearsKresge Eminent ArtistsCurrent panelists and their immediate family membersCurrent members of the Advisory Council and their immediate familyStaff or immediate family members of the staff of The Kresge Foundation, Creative Many Michigan, Midtown Detroit, Inc., and the Kresge Arts in Detroit office at the College for Creative Studies (faculty and staff of the College for Creative Studies NOT associated with the Kresge Arts in Detroit office ARE eligible to apply)WHO MAY NOT APPLY?

COLLABORATIVE APPLICATIONSArtists who collaborate with other artists, and who have an ongoing demonstrated history of collaborating together are permitted to apply under one collaborative applicationEach collaborative artist must meet all eligibility requirements, including residencyCollaborators create one account in the online application system and submit one application. The application includes one primary applicant and up to four additional collaborators. The resume and statements should address your collaborative history and practice, and work samples should represent work created by the collaborative, not by the artists individuallyShould a collaborative application receive a fellowship, the award funds will be divided equally among the collaborators

SELECTION PROCESSEach panel is comprised of 2 local panelists and 3 national panelistsPanelists’ identities are confidential and will remain anonymous until the fellows are announced in the summer of 2015A new, independent fellowship panel is selected each yearThe KAID office at CCS and The Kresge Foundation staff play no role in the decision-making process. Questioning what works in a drawing, she aims to creative images that feel alive. She has exhibited her work in Michigan, Illinois and New York, and has received a grant from the Public Benefit Corporation of Detroit and an award from the Kreft Center for the Arts in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Selecting and preparing work samplesBegin samples at a point that will catch panelists attentionAudio should be at an appropriate volume and consistent throughoutOrder the samples to form a logical and engaging progressionIndividual work samples may only represent one workMultiple views or excerpts of the same work are acceptable in a single work sample (ex: full and detail view of a painting in one image file or excerpts of multiple chapters of a novel)Ensure your work samples are oriented correctly (i.e. the work sample does not open with your work displaying upside down)
